MB Rescued Tote Pattern

Here is a bag that loudly proclaims "I AM A QUILTER" better than any other. It's a roomy tote or bag; excellent for carrying treasures from quilt shows, shop-hopping, or toting show-and-tell to a guild meeting. It's sure to inspire you (and others) to start saving those beautiful selvages!

Finished size: 12" tall, 16" wide, 8" deep

To make one bag, you will need:

  • 1 package of 36"x58" Soft and Stable
  • 0.6 meters of cotton for bag lining
  • 3 meters strapping for handles
  • About 150 selvages, see note below
  • A sewing machine in good working order, fitted with a walking foot and a new, sharp needle
If you are planning on making option two, you will also need:
  • An extra fat quarter of the lining
  • Another 25 selvages
  • One twisty clasp
When you trim off the selvages, be sure to include 3/4" to 1" of the actual fabric on it for piecing. You will need pieces at least 7.5" long. If you go through your stash and find you are short, ask your quilting friends. I bet they would be happy to share!
