Presentation by Lorraine Roy - Free Motion Applique Artist

What began as an unexpected request from a client completely transformed textile artist Lorraine Roy’s perspective on fabric and creative storytelling. A recently widowed client approached Lorraine with a unique challenge: to create a collection of 20 original artworks using over 80 internationally collected dress shirts that had belonged to her late husband. Never one to shy away from a creative challenge, Lorraine accepted — beginning a deeply meaningful and inspiring artistic journey.
During this special presentation, Lorraine will share the process behind this remarkable project, including the joys and creative limitations of working with a finite collection of patterned fabrics. She’ll discuss how she organized and approached the materials, the emotional and technical challenges of cutting into perfectly good garments, and how the experience shaped her artistic practice.
Join Lorraine Roy for an inspiring one-hour presentation as she shares her journey through the world of free motion appliqué, and how her work has inspired many others to explore textile art in new and creative ways.
Following the presentation, stay with us for a two-hour hands-on Free Motion Appliqué class, where you’ll have the opportunity to try this exciting technique for yourself.
