No prior sewing or mending experience is required. This workshop is suitable for anyone interested in learning practical repair techniques, visible mending, and sustainable fashion practices.
Requirements:
Participants should bring at least one garment or textile item to mend during the workshop. Woven fabrics such as denim, canvas, cotton shirts, jackets, and bags work best for the techniques covered in class.

- Embroidery floss and threads
- Fabric scraps for creative repairs

You Bring:
- One or more items you would like to mend (denim, shirts, jackets, bags, or other woven fabrics are recommended)
- Optional: Any fabric scraps, patches, threads, or materials from home that you would like to incorporate into your project
- Optional: Hand-sewing or embroidery needles that you prefer to work with

| Instructor Bio: | Yuki Furuichi is the founder of the Tsugi-Hagi Project based in Victoria, BC. Inspired by Japanese traditions of repair and mindful living, Yuki teaches visible mending as a creative practice that extends the life of clothing while celebrating its history. Through hand stitching, patching, and textile reuse, she encourages participants to see wear and repair not as flaws, but as opportunities for transformation. Yuki has been sewing for many years, creating her own clothing, including kimono-inspired garments, and has led community workshops focused on sustainable textile practices. Her workshops combine practical mending techniques with an appreciation for craftsmanship, creativity, and the stories carried by everyday objects. |
