Freedom of Motion: Stitch Regulator – EDUCATION WORKSHOP



Build confidence in free-motion stitching with this focused, hands-on workshop! In this 3-hour session, students will learn how to get the most out of the BERNINA Stitch Regulator (BSR) and the BERNINA Integrated Stitch Regulator (BISR) found on machines like the B 990.

This half-day class is dedicated to mastering free-motion quilting basics using BSR/BISR. Students will explore the different stitch regulator modes and practice a variety of motifs to improve control, consistency, and stitch quality.

Product Focus:
BERNINA Stitch Regulator (BSR)
BERNINA Integrated Stitch Regulator (BISR)

Skill Level:
Advanced Beginner to Intermediate (students should be comfortable operating their sewing machine)

Students Will Learn:

  • How to set up and use the BSR/BISR

  • Differences between BSR modes and when to use them

  • Techniques for smooth, consistent free-motion stitching

  • How to stitch basic free-motion motifs

  • Tips for improving control and stitch quality

Students Must Bring:

  • BERNINA Sewing machine in good working order with BSR or BISR capability

  • BSR foot 

  • Machine manual

  • Basic sewing supplies (thread, scissors, bobbins, etc.)

Machines:

This is a BERNINA machine-specific class.
Students are strongly encouraged to bring their own machine in good working order.

We will have three machines available for classroom use. If you would like to reserve one, please let us know in advance.

Provided in Class:

  • One 20" x 20" quilt sandwich for practice

Project/Outcome:
Students will complete a series of free-motion quilting samples on a quilt sandwich, building skills and confidence using BSR/BISR.

Instructor:

Allison Giroux was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario and discovered her passion for quilting nearly 18 years ago when she began longarm quilting. She spent several years working as both a longarm quilter and educator at a local quilt store, sharing her knowledge and helping others build confidence in their sewing and quilting skills.

Since April 2025, Allison has been a Product Educator with BERNINA, travelling across the country to demonstrate machines, teach classes, and inspire makers with her enthusiasm for the brand and the creative possibilities it offers.


Skill Level: Intermediate
Skill Details: Advanced beginner to Intermediate. This class is specific to BERNINA machines. You either bring your own machine or let us know if you want to use of ours. We have 3 available for use in the class.
