From Fleece to Batting: Wet Felting Method

Join us for a cozy, creative workshop where you’ll learn how to transform raw wool fleece into warm, durable wet felted batting—perfect for use in handmade quilts. In this hands-on session, we’ll walk through almost every step of the process, from how raw fleece is prepped to finished felt panel for place mat.

Skill Level: Beginner

**No Prerequisites required to take this class

Must be aged 16+

Working with natural, unprocessed wool from a local farm, you will learn: 

• Learn the process of skirting and cleaning raw fleece - this will have been already done for you, but the teacher will talk about it. 

• Techniques for laying out wool for felting

• Wet felting and agitation methods to create flat batting sheets

• How to size and layer wool for use in quilting or textile art

• Tips for storing and using wool batting in your next quilt

Each student will go home with a felted wool batting peice suitable for a place mat as a sample. 

What’s Included:

• Raw local wool fleece

• All tools and supplies (buckets, soap, mesh, towels)

 What to Bring:

• Clothes you don’t mind getting a little damp

• A towel and/or apron

• Enthusiasm for wool and handmade traditions

• Fabric for the size of a placement - this can be a pieced panel or plain quilting cotton fabric (approx. 2 X fat quarters)
