Flat Cap Making Workshop



Discover the art of making a classic flat cap—with a sustainable twist! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to design, cut, and sew your very own flat cap using a curated selection of remnant fabrics. No two caps will be alike—this is your chance to create something truly one-of-a-kind while embracing slow fashion and sustainable making.

Skill Level: Advanced beginner 

Skill requirements: 

A couple beginner level classes, such as 'Tote Bag for New Sewists', have sewn a several projects on your own PLUS basic sewing experience (knowing how to thread and use a sewing machine, wind a bobbin, construct simple seams, and be familiar with sewing terminology such as "right sides of fabric together" and "seam allowance"). 

Must be aged 16+

What You’ll Learn:

  • How to piece together different fabrics to create a unique cap design

  • Pattern and Construction assembly techniques

  • How to construct a structured brim and line your cap for a professional finish

  • Tips for working with remnant fabric and minimizing waste

Sustainability Spotlight:

This class celebrates creative reuse! All fabrics provided are upcycled or reclaimed remnants, making your project not just stylish, but planet-friendly too. Learn how small design choices can reduce textile waste and spark personal creativity.

What we provide:

  • Wool remnant fabric and Recirculated quilting cotton (You are welcome to bring your own wool and quilting cotton from home or to purchase - you need 1/4 m of woven wool fabric & 1/2 m of quilting cotton for the lining)

  • Prepped pattern for your head size - PLEASE CONTACT US WITH YOUR HEAD SIZE IN INCHES

  • Instructions to take home with you 
  • Tea and a fun supportive environment 


What you provide:


  • Machine (we encourage you to bring your own machine, but one will be provided if you are not able to bring yours) 
  • Wool remnants if you wish and quilting cotton if you have some you would like to use.
  • Thread 
  • Interfacing (for the brim - we recommend Pellon Peltex single sided fusible stabilizer, which we carry) 
  • Other tools, like pins, scissors etc. 
*We offer a 20% discount on any notions and materials needed for the class
