Garment Skill Building - Buttons and Buttonholes



Come join us for a 3 hour skill building class focusing on learning about button and button hole applications for garment making, specific for your own machine This class is perfect for those wanting to focus one skill at at time. You will leave the class with samples different button and buttonhole applications to add to your skills library at home to reference. 

This class is part of series of one off skill building classes for garment making. Join us for other classes in the series that include:

Skill Level:
 Advanced beginner 

Skill requirements: 

A couple beginner level classes, such as 'Tote Bag for New Sewists', have sewn a several projects on your own PLUS basic sewing experience (knowing how to thread and use a sewing machine, wind a bobbin, construct simple seams, and be familiar with sewing terminology such as "right sides of fabric together" and "seam allowance"). 

Must be aged 16+


Learning outcomes:
  • How to prep your fabric for buttonholes
  • Learn to do a general buttonhole
  • Learn to do a jacket buttonhole
  • Learn to do other buttonholes for other applications on garments
  • Finishing techniques for buttons and how to use your machine to sew them on or by hand

What we supply: 

This class includes recirculated fabric  to make your samples. If you have fabric at home, you may bring those in with you to make your samples.

** Quilting cotton is a good fabric to use to get an idea of how pocket applications work. If you specifically have a fabric you want to try the pocket entries on you may bring that in as well and we will show how to prep that fabric for the best possible outcome. 

What you bring: 

If you have fabric from home that you want to use in class the following is what you will need

  • 6-8 Fat Quarters in quilting cotton.
  • Fusible interfacing 
  • Different size buttons (we have a small stash to choose from) 
  • Machine with your buttonhole foot and button foot (if applicable for your machine)
