Learn how to turn tired old clothes into trendy, one-of-a-kind pieces in this hands-on clothing up-cycling class! This class is for those looking to sharpen your skills through the creative process of transforming discarded garments into something fresh, stylish, and uniquely you.

Focusing on size alterations to full redesigns, you’ll explore sustainable sewing techniques, more advanced garment construction, and design planning. No need to buy new materials—your next fashion statement is already in your closet!

Skill Level: Intermediate

Skill requirements:

Have sewn a few garments projects on your own, know how to read a pattern and understand size chart PLUS basic sewing experience (knowing how to thread and use a sewing machine, wind a bobbin, construct simple seams, and be familiar with sewing terminology such as "right sides of fabric together" and "seam allowance"). 

Must be 16+

  • Assess and Select Garments for Up-cycling
  • Develop Creative Design Concepts
  • Apply Technical Sewing and Alteration Skills
  • Execute a Complete Up-cycled Garment Project 
  • Reflect on Design Process and Sustainability Impact
**This is a hands on design and execution based class where we will teach you what will work, what wont and how to apply techniques for a better outcome for up-cycling. You will be able to work together as a group to help each come up with a design and Tanya will help you execute it properly. - You will leave with at least one up-cycled garment; and newfound knowledge to continue on your own! 

What to Bring:
  • Garments from home that you want to up-cycle (this could be woven and or knit garments) 
  • Other fabric you may want to incorporate into your up-cycled design
  • Sewing Machine 
  • Serger (if you have one) 
  • Rotary cutter
  • Pins
  • Clips
