Recreate your Wardrobe: Cloning



Love that favourite top or pair of pants and wish you had more just like it? In this 4-week hands-on sewing class, you’ll learn how to clone your clothes by creating custom patterns from your existing garments—no need to take them apart!

Skill Level: Intermediate

Skill Requirements:

  • Advanced Beginner classes plus several completed items.
  • Experience successfully completing several sewing projects. This class will not cover basic sewing machine operations such as threading a needle, switching needles, how to adjust stitch length, locking stitches, reverse stitching, pivoting corners, winding bobbins etc. Students should be capable of performing these procedures without assistance.
  • For apparel making classes: you must have familiarity with using a sewing pattern, measuring oneself and picking a size.

What You'll Learn:

  • How to trace and replicate your favourite garment without damaging it

  • Basic pattern drafting techniques

  • Learn how to tru your pattern and add necessary markings 
  • How to adjust patterns for a better fit

  • Tips for choosing fabrics similar to your original piece

What to Bring:

  • 1–2 garments you'd like to replicate

  • Tracing paper

  • Ruler

  • Pins

  • Pen or pencil

  • Push pins

    **We encourage you to bring these items with you, if you dont have some the tools, we have some here for you to use and also to purchase for future use at home for other projects.

Instructor Bio: Tanya is formally trained in fashion design and technology with extensive and professionally trained sewing experience of over 25 years & over 15 years of teaching experience, Her background includes custom design, alterations, styling, custom fitting, teaching and more. For the last 8 years she has focused on teaching and building a strong local sewing community with other sewists and enthusiasts.
