Sew with Alice: Corset Making Workshop
Never used bones and grommets before? Would you like to take your costumes and dresses to the next level? This class will get you started with the basics of corset making and boned bodices.In this one-day workshop, you will make a simple custom fit decorative corset used for costumes and dress making.
Alice, your instructor is a professional costume maker for opera, film and tv. She loves making boned bodices and delightful costumes.
*This class will give you the basics to learning how to make a simple corset.
This is an all day class which will included a lunch break around noon. We recommend you bring lunch and snacks with you.
Skill Level: Advanced beginner - Intermediate
Skill requirements:
Have sewn a few garments projects on your own, basic sewing experience (knowing how to thread and use a sewing machine, wind a bobbin, construct simple seams, and be familiar with sewing terminology such as right sides of fabric together and seam allowances.
Must be aged 16+
You will learn:
- Basic knowledge for corsets and boned bodices
- How to put in eyelets and grommets
- How to cut and insert bones
- Fitting a corset
- How to bias bind the edge of a corset
- Learn the fit as you go method specific to corset making
- Machine if you are not bringing your own
- Recirculated fabric
- Corset Pattern
- Boning
- Grommets
- Thread
- ½ meter (55” wide, or .8 meters of 45” wide) of woven non stretch cotton, linen or taffeta fabric for the outside of the corset (Can be picked out from our selection recirculated fabrics)
- Equal amount of denim or canvas twill. *You can bring in old pair of non stretch jeans.
wash and dry your fabric in the same way that you will wash and dry your garment to
pre-shrink your fabric. ***
