Lined Zipper Pouch



Learn to sew a lined zipper pouch at The Green Thimble. This workshop is a great way to learn new
sewing skills and gain confidence. You will complete your zipper pouch in two 2-hour classes. You'll
begin by planning your project and cutting out the fabric, then you'll construct your lined zipper pouch
employing several different techniques.

ln this workshop you will learn how to:
  • Sew in a zipper with tabs
  • lnsert a lining
  • Make boxed corners (optional)
  • Hand stitching: Ladder stitch


PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A TWO-SESSION CIASS:

Begin your project on day l, cut out panels and insert zipper.

Return on day 2 to assemble your zippered pouch.


Lined zipper pouches require:
0.5 metre of cotton canvas fabric; if contrasting lining is desired, extra fabric will be needed
One 9 or 10-inch nylon zipper
Coordi nating Polyester Thread
This is a good project for using fabric scraps. lf you plan to use scraps, you'll need enough for four
rectangles 12 inches wide and 9 inches high.
Recommended fabric: Light weight canvas or quilting cotton
Measurements:
Pouch with boxed corner base: 1O" x 6"
Flat pouch: 11" x7 .5"
Supply list for students:
  • Sewing machine in good working order with fresh needle including bobbin, power cord and foot control
    • Machines available for use in store, though it is always best to learn on your own machine. Please let us know ahead of time if you need to borrow one of our machines. 
  • Fabric for you pouch:
    • 0.3 metre of light cotton canvas fabric, or equivalent of scraps to patchwork outer panels
    • 0.3 meters of lining fabric
  • One 9" or 10" nylon zipper;
  • One spool of polyester thread, neutral to blend
  • Small cutting mat, ruler and rotary cutter optional (some will be available, but not enough for everyone to have their own)
  • Small ironing mat and iron optional (some will be available, but not enough for everyone to have their own)
  • Fabric scissors
  • Hand-sewing needles
  • Marking tool (chalk, washable or iron-off pen)
  • Any other standard notions such as straight pins, stitch ripper, etc.


**Recirculated fabrics used for the class are included in price. 20% discount for other supplies purchased for the class. Discounts for students also available at other select local fabric stores, contact/ask us for details at time of registration. If students wish to take home extra fabric from The Green Thimble beyond what is needed for their project, they can purchase more at student discount, plus any purchases made on day of class.

Please select your fabrics ahead of time of class, either on a previous day or at least 30 minutes prior to start of class.

Advanced or adventurous beginner. Basic sewing experience, such as knowing how to thread and use a sewing machine, wind a bobbin, construct simple seams, and familiarity with sewing terminology such as "right sides of fabric together'' and "seam allowance."
