Private Sewing Lesson with Tanya



Book a private lesson with Tanya. Her extensive and professionally trained sewing experience of over 25 years & over 15 years of teaching experience, can help you! 

Tanya teaches students from ages 8 and up of ANY skill level. 


Private Lesson Options and Booking Information

Private lessons are available in-person and virtually. Our posted schedule allows for one-hour sessions; however, for any special requests, please contact us directly at classes@thegreenthimble.ca.

Please email us if you wish to set up:

  • A virtual private lesson.
  • A lesson time that is not currently posted (Tanya is sometimes able to accommodate other time spots).
  • A two-hour lesson instead of the standard one-hour booking.
  • A lesson with more than one person (Note: a group of more than two people may be considered a private booking).

A Note on Availability: We encourage you to book weekday lesson times when possible. Tanya's weekend schedule is limited to one Sunday a month, and we aim to reserve these slots for clients who are only available on weekends.


She has expertise in teaching the following skills:
 

- Intermediate to advanced sewing
- Serger/Overlock or cover stitch machine tutorials
- Pattern/fit adjustments
- Alterations and tailoring
- Sewing knits
- Dress form building/adjustments
- Draping (3D pattern making w/ fabric)
- Fashion school portfolio preparation
- Basic lingerie (underwear and non-wired bras)
- Swimwear 

What she is NOT able to help you with:

- Wired bras and other advanced lingerie
- Upholstery

If you are booking a machine orientation, please be sure to bring with you the following:

  • The machine you would like instruction on, in good working order and with fresh needle
  • Foot control and power cord
  • Standard presser foot (usually zigzag)
  • Bobbin case (if applicable)
  • Bobbin
  • Thread that you would typically use
  • Any presser feet or accessories required for features you would like specific attention on (buttonhole, free motion/darning, etc)
  • Instruction manual
  • Note paper and pencil

Instructor Bio: Tanya is formally trained in fashion design and technology with extensive and professionally trained sewing experience of over 25 years & over 15 years of teaching experience, Her background includes custom design, alterations, styling, custom fitting, teaching and more. For the last 8 years she has focused on teaching and building a strong local sewing community with other sewists and enthusiasts.
