Free Motion - Thread Painting
In day 3 of our free motion series, you'll delve into the world of thread painting. This unique workshop is designed for quilters and artists seeking to infuse their projects with stunning, lifelike imagery and vibrant colors using fabric and thread. Your sewing machine becomes your paintbrush. Learn how to blend, shade, and create intricate details with a spectrum of thread colors, transforming your quilt into a canvas of rich, textured scenes. This class is perfect for both novice and experienced quilters, offering a chance to craft quilted masterpieces that tell stories with every stitch. Students must come with some experience with free motion sewing.
Things you will need for this class:
- Sewing machine in good working order (if need be, you may borrow one of ours in class, but it is best to learn on your own machine)
- Brand new needle
- Free motion/darning foot that is wide enough for zigzag
- Thread in a variety of colours (rayon or other embroidery thread is great, but it doesn't matter. Cotton or poly will work just fine). There will be some for use, though, so no panic if you don't have any/much:
- Greens, yellows, oranges, reds
- Variegated
- At least one colour in a range of value light to dark, this can be one of the colours mentioned above
- Extension table (optional, but highly recommended. If your machine has a tray that goes around a free arm, make sure you at least bring the tray.)
- Fabric will be provided
- Optional:
- Free motion gloves or grippers
- Sew Slip or similar non-stick mat
