Free Motion 101

In our free motion quilting class, you'll unlock your creativity and master the art of quilting without boundaries. This hands-on workshop empowers both beginners and experienced quilters to explore the exciting world of free-motion quilting. With expert guidance, you'll explore what you can do when you drop your feed dogs.
Discover essential techniques for controlling stitch length, speed, and tension as you navigate your fabric without predefined patterns. Gain confidence in stippling, meandering, feathers, and other decorative motifs. Through practice and feedback, you'll develop the skills needed to transform plain quilts into works of art. Join us to quilt outside the lines and add a new dimension to your sewing repertoire.
Things you will need for this class:
- Sewing machine in good working order (if need be, you may borrow one of ours in class, but it is best to learn on your own machine)
- Brand new needle
- Free motion/darning foot
- Vibrant coloured thread for quilting, so you can see your beautiful stitching (I like quilting with King Tut)
- Extension table (optional, but highly recommended. If your machine has a tray that goes around a free arm, make sure you at least bring the tray.)
- Fabric will be provided
- Optional:
- Free motion gloves or grippers
- Sew Slip or similar non-stick mat
